The name is enough to say it all…but I didn’t come up with it. In preparation for Baby #3, I have been doing LOTS of reading. This being the first baby we planned for, I have really put my best foot forward when it comes to nutrition and preparation. I stumbled across a great book free on my Hoopla App… The Mindful Mom-to-be by doula and healer Lori Bregman. She gives all kinds of advice from conception to birth from her experiences, but perhaps the best advice I have taken away from reading it is all of her helpful recipes. One I have been dying to try is a recipe she came up with in a collaboration with LA-based organic cafe Beaming called the “Knocked Up Smoothie” and apparently all the celebs love it, too. You can find an original article featuring the recipe here.
Recipe:
8 ounces almond milk
2 ounces coconut water
1 date
1 tbsp almond butter
1/2 cup of spinach
1/4 avocado
1 Tbsp goji berries
2 Tbsp of protein powder
1 tsp of super greens
1 tsp of chia powder
1/2 tsp of E3live
1/4 cup frozen bananas
1/2 cup frozen strawberries
1 cup of ice
1 Tbsp of hemp seeds
Blend all ingredients except for hemp seeds. Pour in glass and top with hemp seeds!
When I made mine, I used ingredients I was able to source on Amazon and from the local grocery store. I skipped out on the super greens and E3Live, but it still tasted just as good. I will invest in those ingredients to maximize the nutrient content as Lori intended. I was able find a powdered goji berry mix, specifically made for blending, so I used 1 tbsp of that instead of the berries themselves.
